2 Children Pulled From Burning Car In Central Mass; Police Thank Rescuers

Police in Worcester County say two children and a driver are alive today thanks to five good samaritans who risked their own safety to pull them from a burning car on Monday, July 10.

Charlton police rushed to the crash on Monday, July 10, on Worcester Road, but when they arrived, officers learned that five good samaritans had already saved the driver and children from the burning wreckage.

Charlton police were called to a car crash just after 6:30 p.m. near 338 Worcester Road. When they arrived, officers learned the occupants were safe thanks to the quick action and bravery of five people who risked their lives to pull the kids and driver from the burning car.

Police released their names and thanked them for helping secure the "best-case outcome" in the crash. They are Russel Jennings, Mireya Wattson, Agata Lajoie, Alysa Hanson, and an unnamed person.

"Every day we rely on the support of the citizens within the general public, but incidents like this remind us all of what a great community we live in," Charlton police said in a Facebook post.

Authorities did not say if the children or driver were injured in the crash.
